The Megazine issue 281 is out this week, and with it, my first 2000AD/Megazine cover. It’s a ‘stock’ cover – that is, something drawn that can be used on the comic regardless of the content – 2000AD usually keeps a few in reserve in case the deadlines get fubbed up, or other matters make it difficult to co-ordinate a cover with a comic strip (say you have a great scene inside that issue but your cover artist is late – no point running the cover the issue AFTER that scene? and, vice versa – interior artist is late, that cover can’t be used so you need something you can yank out of the stock cover draw – that’s not to say either situation occured here, just letting you know the historical reasoning behind stock covers…)
Anyhue, here’s the sketches and wotnot I sent for approval to the Mighty One… (and a small version of the actual finished article – surprisingly, the thumbnail and the finished image are pretty damn similar looking…)

Brilliant cover, my friend! Well done!

Lovely cover PJ! Great sketches..They’d have all made a cracking cover!
NICE. Love it, man. Can’t wait until it gets to my side o’ the Pond.
I reckon the one with Dredd wheelying straight at the reader would have made a pretty crackin’ image, too.
That’s a hell of a cover, PJ! I love your Dredd. The bigger the chin, the better if you ask me ;P
I wonder when it will make it over the ocean. Diamond, you really suck…
I LOVE this cover, well done Paul! Love the sketch next to the finisged cover too – woulda loved to have seen that!
top stuff – the break on the curve on the top of the helmet is a nice twist – any other artists doing that?
4 would have made a great cover – not enough of those moody 1984-esque images get used, sorta reminds me of Walker’s Sin City GN cover.
Roll on your return to the weekly!
heh.. SATANS ISLAND OBVIOUSLY..
oohh. vodka. BAD.
Awesome work PJ – I really like the composition and Dredd looks great – One of the nicest Meg covers for a while I reckon!
Good Luck in NY!
Looks great an iconic Dredd image.
