SO, largely what happened last week is… well, I finished the Dog Tag episode 5, starting episode 6 next week and that’s it complete. Yesterday I heard the news that Mad Cave have laid off a bunch of editorial and marketing staff which is worrying (both for the individuals concerned and the company as a whole) as far as I know Dog Tag continues apace, it’s all but one issue finished, so it’s in shops next month. Hopefully this is a temporary blip, Mad Cave is a good company and this will be my second book for them.
Then rather than turn to doing the rest of Terran Omega, I decided to hit the 2000ad Project, at least the first issue of it – I finished that yesterday, one week turnaround, I had hoped to get it done even quicker, I was on track to four days and I ended up blowing the weekend, so seven days it is. Still, not bad. It’s also I think some of my best work for 2000ad. It got drawn quickly because it was enormous fun to do.
Finally generally chipper at my productivity at the moment, which is a relief, because I’ve done enough six-pages-in-a-month months to never want to be in that position again. I wouldn’t call it artists block – because I was still producing, but certainly I was redrawing, lacking in confidence, and doing work that I’m sure I could redraw better but had to be handed in for a deadline.
Could be I’m the only one that notices stuff like that, but certainly I struggled through a lot of the recent Dredd strip, it did take a month to do six pages. Useless.
So, this week, this week (from today, Tuesday) I’ll be drawing Terran Omega, as a reward for getting some invoices out!
I’m not gonna bother to plan it, the hope is I get between 2-4 pages per day, starting with a double page spread which I’ve got to ink up today too.
My wife has started working one day from home per week, and today is the day – which means I’ve lost the downstairs space I was using, but that’s ok, I’ll head back to my studio to work there.
Anyway, on with the week, let’s go!
